Exposition
Hebrews 12 uses the metaphor of a long-distance race, not a sprint. Endurance is the virtue of the marathon runner, not the hundred-metres athlete. The marketplace leader who sustains faithful, kingdom-oriented work over decades needs a different resource than the one who leads a single high-intensity push.
The key to endurance is not willpower — it is fixation. “Fixing our eyes on Jesus” is the endurance mechanism. When the eyes drift to the obstacles, the circumstances, or the other runners, pace and orientation are lost. When they return to Jesus — the one who ran the hardest race in history to its completion — perspective is restored.
Galatians 6:9 adds the temporal dimension: the harvest comes “at the proper time.” Not on your schedule. The leader who gives up just before the harvest is the great tragedy of business resilience. Endurance is partly the faith to believe that the season of sowing is not the final word.
Do not give up. The proper time has not yet arrived.
